About our clinic
People with obesity can suffer medically, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
We understand them and their disease and we work with them to not only lose weight but improve their quality of life and become the best version of themselves.
Currently our clinics are located in Brisbane, Redcliffe and Capalaba with balloon placement sites at Rochedale
How it all started
Brisbane General & Obesity Surgery was established in 2020 by highly-regarded Bariatric Surgeon, Dr Jason Wong, to provide the best holistic care to patients seeking to not only lose weight, but to improve their health and quality of life.
We aim to provide a friendly and enjoyable experience throughout your interactions with our clinic, which reflects who we are not only as clinicians, but as people.
Utilising an extended multidisciplinary team that consists of bariatric nurses, weight-management nurse practitioners, dietitians, lifestyle coaching, psychologists, exercise physiologist and physicians, patients are able to receive true support for their weight-loss journey.

Allurion certified physician
General & bariatric surgeon
I am a general surgeon with subspecialty interests in reflux, bariatric (weight loss) surgery and lifestyle medicine. I grew up and trained in Queensland, first completing a Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2008 before graduating from medicine in 2013 with honours both at the University of Queensland.
Having had a passion for general surgery since medical school, I completed my training in General Surgery in 2020 having spent 4 years in various hospitals across Queensland. In 2021 I completed further sub-specialist training in esophagogastric and bariatric surgery at the Gold Coast University and Pindara Private Hospitals.
I chose to specialise in bariatric surgery not just due to the interesting and life changing operations that we do but also because of the passionate and dedicated mentors, surgeons and allied health members that have inspired me to be in this field.
I am dedicated to my craft and believe that the key to being a good surgeon involves not only the ability to be technical but requires collaboration, teamwork, communication with an emphasis on patient centred care.
I enjoy the pathology that I deal with and the challenges that comes along with it. I enjoy the autonomy of being a surgeon but also working in a team of like-minded professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.
I feel privileged to be able to return back to Brisbane to contribute to its healthcare needs. I am also passionate about training the next generation of doctors by being involved in the teaching and education of surgical trainees, junior medical staff and medical students from the University of Queensland.

Our approach
-
When patients are well informed about their condition and treatment options, our experience is that it leads to better patient selection, participation and satisfaction.
-
Being thorough is what we do. We get to know you as a person, not just as a patient. This helps us to understand what you struggle with, so that we can help you better.
We aim to identify identify lifestyle and behavioural factors that contribute to weight-gain in order to make plans with our team to help you to manage these for long-term success.
-
Together, we will make a management plan that involves our multidisciplinary team, to help you to overcome any medical, lifestyle and behavioural factors that contribute to weight-gain, decreased health or quality of life.
-
Our support structure empowers you to make the changes that ultimately help with weight loss, improved health, quality of life and happiness.
We know it works.
So do our patients.
ARE YOU READY?
